KCC paddlers preparing for a club activity

Trips

Club trips, days out, and adventures

A regular rhythm of club paddling

Trips are planned around people, water, weather, season, equipment, and leader availability rather than a fixed commercial programme.

Monthly aim

The club aims to run at least one trip a month where conditions, volunteer capacity, and suitable groups allow.

Day trips first

Most club trips are day trips, making them easier for members and families to join around normal life.

Weekend adventures

Occasional weekend trips give members a chance to paddle further afield and build a stronger club community.

Club Favourites

From Spark Bridge to summer beach days

January usually includes the club’s well-known Spark Bridge weekend in the Lake District, a winter club weekend that has become part of the KCC rhythm.

In summer, KCC also aims to make space for a fun day out at the beach, giving members and families a more relaxed way to enjoy paddling, the coast, and time together.

These examples depend on planning, weather, venues, accommodation, volunteer availability, and the suitability of the group each year.

What trips can include

KCC trips cover different environments, from social paddles and beach days to white water, sea kayaking, and occasional longer adventures.

White water trips

White water trips can include rivers in Wales, the Lake District, Yorkshire, longer trips to Scotland or the Alps, and white water centres for year-round paddling.

Sea kayaking trips

Sea kayaking includes regular trips to the sea, plus longer trips around Scotland, Ireland, Anglesey, and other suitable coastal areas.

Social and family days

Some trips are more relaxed: flat water journeys, family-friendly days out, beach days, and community paddling events.

Suitability

The right trip for the right group

Not every trip is suitable for every paddler. Some days are beginner-friendly, while others require specific skills, equipment, confidence, or prior experience.

White water, sea kayaking, remote journeys, and winter trips need careful decisions about river levels, weather, sea state, temperature, safety cover, first aid, and group readiness.

Trip information should explain the expected environment, meeting details, kit, transport assumptions, and any experience or membership requirements.
