How it works

FAQs
Practical questions
How do I access PaddleWell Wakefield?
Live Well Wakefield will coordinate most social-prescribing referrals and signposting. If you found PaddleWell through KCC’s website, a public taster, or another community route, you can still contact KCC directly for information and to ask about suitable opportunities.
Do I have to attend a fixed course?
No. PaddleWell opportunities are intended to be spread across selected pool and public taster sessions. You can discuss which advertised dates may be suitable; not every ordinary KCC taster will include PaddleWell places.
Do I need my own equipment?
No. Suitable club equipment is planned for accepted participants, subject to fit and availability. KCC will confirm what is provided and what to bring before a session.
Is outdoor paddling guaranteed?
No. Outdoor progression is optional and depends on participant choice, suitability, conditions, equipment, venue assessment, and available volunteer support.
Do I need paddling experience?
No previous paddling experience is required. The programme starts with an introduction in the pool.
Do I need to be able to swim?
KCC will explain the approved water-confidence and suitability requirements before confirming a place. Do not assume that an enquiry alone confirms suitability.
What will it cost?
Each accepted participant can attend up to 10 PaddleWell sessions free of charge. If you decide to join KCC, one year of membership is also free. Joining the club is optional. KCC will confirm which advertised sessions count towards your allowance.
How do I find the next PaddleWell date?
Selected opportunities will be advertised individually through KCC and community channels. You can also use the contact form to ask what is coming up. Please keep the first message brief and non-sensitive.
Start with Live Well—or ask KCC directly
Ask your Live Well adviser about PaddleWell, or send KCC a brief, non-sensitive enquiry about upcoming opportunities.
